Elder A. Hoffmeister was born in Washington, USA, and experienced a uniquely adventurous upbringing. By the age of seven, he had lived in six different cities. His family then began traveling full-time across the United States, staying in 38 states as his father worked on nationwide contracts. At sixteen, the family returned to their home base—the city where their travels had first begun—and Aldrich spent his final two years before his mission there.

He initially began his missionary service in the Urdaneta Philippines Mission, speaking Tagalog. After eight months, he contracted a severe case of Dengue fever and was temporarily released to return home and recover. With faith and determination, he reapplied and was reassigned to the Cauayan Philippines Mission, where he is continuing to serve faithfully for the remainder of his two-year mission.
